Digital and Distance Learning - General Education Department

Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT).
The program bridges classroom learning with real-world industry needs by fostering innovation, teamwork, and hands-on problem-solving skills. VisioNEX provides students with an inclusive platform to design and develop practical digital solutions that address real-world challenges.
The competition celebrates the potential of every student ensuring that regardless of background, all participants are empowered to create meaningful and impactful technological solutions.
VisioNEX was founded to bridge the digital divide by providing equitable access to technology education to students across Sri Lanka, especially in rural and semi-urban areas. Through team-based hackathons and mentorship, the program promotes digital literacy, innovation and industry-relevant skills.

Born from the visionary leadership of Mr. Mohan Fernando, Group CEO of the Informatics Group of Companies, VisioNEX represents a bold commitment to nurturing the next generation of tech innovators. It envisions a future where success is not defined by access to resources, but by creativity, perseverance, and teamwork.
The inaugural edition of VisioNEX brought together seventeen Catholic private schools from Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, and Negombo, marking the beginning of an inspiring journey of discovery and innovation. Over several months, students participated in challenges - from UI/UX design and coding to project presentations.
Through workshops, mentorship sessions, and hackathon events, VisioNEX goes beyond competition. It builds essential 21st-century skills - collaboration, problem-solving, leadership, and digital literacy - while fostering a sense of purpose and confidence among young innovators.
Guided by IIT's expert mentors, students learn to think differently, work as teams, and transform ideas into impactful solutions. They develop hands-on experience in solving real-world problems through technology, gaining skills that go far beyond traditional classroom learning.
